Accreditation

The University of Georgia is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees. The University of Georgia also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Questions about the accreditation of the University of Georgia may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling (404) 679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC’s website.

UGA's most recent reaffirmation of accreditation took place in 2021-2022. Additional information about SACSCOC, including its Principles of Accreditation, are available at www.sacscoc.org.

Institutional accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental peer review process overseen by the higher education community that assures academic quality, accountability, and continuous improvement of member institutions. Institutional accreditation by a recognized institutional accrediting agency qualifies University students to apply for federal financial aid and University researchers to apply for federally funded research grants.

The Office of Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness oversees matters pertaining to the University’s accreditation, including coordination of the reaffirmation processes. For more information, please contact Maggie Parker, Director for Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness, at 706-542-9860 or mcparker@uga.edu.
