College of Family and Consumer Sciences announcement

Dean Linda Kirk Fox, who has provided exemplary leadership of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences for the past decade, has announced that she will retire on August 1, 2021.

Under the leadership of Dr. Fox, enrollment in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences has increased by more than 20% and sponsored research activity has more than doubled. The number of endowed faculty chairs in the College has tripled from five to 15, and several additional endowed funds were established to support students and faculty. Private support also has enabled the creation of the Charles Schwab Financial Planning Center in a renovated building on South Campus.

Dr. Fox, who also serves as Associate Director of Georgia Cooperative Extension and Associate Director of Georgia Agricultural Experiment Stations, has promoted community engaged research initiatives such as the College’s leadership in the campus-wide Obesity Initiative and the Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance. Under her leadership, the College’s Faculty Advisory Committee engaged in a three-year process that in 2015 resulted in a College-wide diversity plan.

An announcement on the search for the next Dean will be forthcoming.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Fox for a decade of outstanding service to the University of Georgia.
