The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved several revisions to board policies on faculty post-tenure and annual reviews on October 13. Subsequently, Provost Hu appointed a 14-member Working Group on Faculty Evaluation Policies and Practices (FEPP Working Group), charged with helping develop revisions to the University’s policies and practices on faculty promotion and tenure, annual evaluation, and post-tenure review.
The working group includes representatives from the University Council Executive Committee, Faculty Affairs Committee, Committee on Statutes, Bylaws, and Committees, and Post-tenure Review Appeals Committee, as well as other faculty and unit leadership representatives across disciplines. The working group is co-chaired by Janette Hill (University Council Faculty Affairs Committee Chair and Professor, Mary Frances Early College of Education) and Elizabeth Weeks (Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professor, School of Law). The Annual Review and Post Tenure Review process changes as outlined by the BOR will be utilized to assist the FEPP Working Group in modifying the current UGA Annual Evaluation, Promotion & Tenure Guidelines, and Post-Tenure Review Policy. Any changes, updates, or other relevant information will be reviewed by multiple levels of faculty governance, including the Faculty Affairs Committee, University Council Executive Committee, and University Council. The current deadline for institutional policy development to be completed is the end of Spring Semester 2022.
The FEPP Working Group is seeking ongoing feedback and suggestions on UGA policy revisions. The Working Group is also specifically seeking suggestions for examples of student success activities by Friday, December 10 to include in the updates to UGA policies.
