Michael Wooten joined the University of Georgia Provost’s Office in 2022, where he leads communications strategy for the Academic Affairs division, including executive‑level communications for the provost and senior academic leadership. In this role, he oversees the development and execution of messaging that advances institutional academic priorities and ensures clarity, consistency, and alignment across units and channels.

Prior to joining the Provost’s Office, Wooten served as communications director for the UGA College of Engineering for seven years. He led all communications and marketing efforts for the college during a period of rapid expansion following its founding in 2012, supporting the launch and growth of academic programs, research initiatives, faculty recruitment, and student recruitment. His work helped establish a strong identity and visibility for the new college at both the state and national levels.

Before moving to UGA, Wooten was part of the university communications team at Georgia College and State University, where he led the launch of the institution’s public radio station. He developed the station’s strategic vision and created and oversaw original news and entertainment programming serving campus and community audiences.

Earlier in his career, Wooten served as a communications director in K–12 education, where he led comprehensive communications and marketing initiatives. His work earned multiple Georgia School Public Relations Association and National School Public Relations Association awards, recognizing excellence in strategic communications, branding, and audience engagement.

Wooten began his professional career as an award‑winning broadcast journalist, winning multiple Associated Press and Georgia Association of Broadcasters awards for his reporting. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
