Welcome from the Provost

Pam Whitten

The University of Georgia is one of the nation’s top public universities, and I am honored to serve as its senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.

Our world-class faculty includes members of the nation’s most selective scholarly organizations, including the National Academies and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Our faculty also includes numerous recipients of NSF CAREER Awards, Presidential Early Career Awards, Guggenheim Fellowships and other honors.

In all 17 of UGA’s schools and colleges and in the Augusta University/UGA Medical Partnership, our faculty extend the boundaries of human knowledge through their research and scholarship. They also provide our students with extraordinary learning opportunities.

Our undergraduate students have distinguished themselves by earning many of the world’s most competitive scholarships, including the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Truman scholarships. Graduate and professional students come to UGA from around the world and help Georgia build the innovative, flexible and highly skilled workforce that is essential in today’s knowledge-based economy.

The transformative impact of our faculty and students can be seen statewide, nationally and even internationally. Our public service and outreach programs are revitalizing communities across the state with more diverse and resilient economies. Our technology transfer activities have placed more than 575 products derived from UGA research on the market, including pharmaceuticals, educational software, and disease and drought resistant crops.

As the nation’s first state-chartered university, the University of Georgia has a long history of leadership in public higher education. As Provost, my priority is to foster an environment that enables our faculty and students to excel in their academic pursuits so that we can build on this institution’s rich history. By working together, we can take the university to an even higher level of excellence in teaching, research and service.

Thank you for visiting this site. I hope that you won’t hesitate to contact the Provost’s Office if my staff or I can be of assistance to you.
