Below are travel-related resources for UGA faculty, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students who have been invited to present their research or scholarship at an academic conference or workshop.
Faculty Travel Funding
Domestic Travel
All requests for domestic travel funds should be directed to the dean in your school or college.
International Travel
The Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost is pleased to announce the allocation of funds to support international faculty travel in FY26. The international travel funds are managed by the Office of Global Engagement (OGE).
International travel is defined as travel outside the 48 contiguous U.S. states. These funds are intended for full-time faculty who are invited and/or accepted to attend an international conference or artistic venue to present a scholarly paper or creative work.
International travel funding is limited to one trip per faculty member in FY26. Requests must include at least 1:1 matching funds for consideration. A maximum of $2,000 in funding per faculty trip is available from the Office of the Provost. Travel must take place between July 1, 2025, and June 24, 2026.
Faculty will be able to apply for additional funds supporting a connected visit to a new or existing international partner for the purpose of developing joint research, recruiting graduate students or facilitating new institutional collaboration. Relevant documentation clearly identifying the activity to be undertaken will be required, including an invitation letter from the partner. Up to an additional $500 will be available, and no matching funds are required. The funds can be applied to lodging, transportation and meal expenses of the traveler.
To apply for international travel funds from the Office of the Provost:
- Complete the Request for FY 2026 Provost International Travel Funds Form available at this link. Please note, these funds must be used in conjunction with other funding to support the international travel request. When describing the nature of the travel, be precise in explaining your role at the conference or artistic venue (i.e., presenting scholarly papers or creative works). Documentation supporting your request (i.e., invitation and/or acceptance letter) must be attached to the form.
- Faculty requesting additional funding for partnership development must attach an invitation letter from the partner on institutional letterhead that clearly identifies the proposed activity for which supplemental support is being sought. The request also must contain supporting information such as an invitation to give a lecture, workshop or seminar; official schedule of meetings; or formal evidence of joint research.
- Faculty must submit the request for funds to the appropriate department head/director and then to the dean/vice president for review and approval.
- The signed form with all supporting documentation should be submitted via email to [email protected].
Notification of Award: All requests will receive a notification and, if approved, the award will be transferred by the OGE Business Office. Any questions regarding international travel funds from the Office of the Provost should be directed to the OGE Business Office ([email protected] or 706-542-2900).
Domestic and International Postdoctoral Scholar Travel Funding
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs in the Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to continue the Postdoctoral Scholar Travel Program. This program provides support for postdoctoral scholars’ domestic and international travel to present active research at national and international conferences and to participate in professional development events, such as formal workshops or training sessions.
Matching funds (at least 1:1) must be identified and may be provided by the postdoctoral scholar’s research mentor/supervisor, unit, or college, or by an external travel award or grant.
The maximum funding from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is $1,500 per domestic trip or $2,000 per international trip. Only one award per year per postdoctoral scholar is allowed. Applications are submitted via InfoReady and are reviewed in quarterly intervals, with deadlines on the second Tuesday of July, September, November, January, March and May.
Graduate Student Travel Funding
The Graduate School’s Conference Travel Grant program supports full-time graduate students presenting their own dissertation or thesis research at domestic and international conferences and professional meetings. Students are limited to a total of two travel grants during their time as graduate students at UGA.
To apply for graduate student conference travel grants, students must demonstrate all eligibility requirements from the Conference Travel Grants website and in the quarterly Call for Applications to their departments. After verifying eligibility, graduate coordinators submit applications for their students using the Domestic Graduate Travel Form (for travel within the 48 contiguous U.S. states) or International Graduate Travel Form (for travel to Hawaii, Alaska and U.S. territories) in the GradStatus portal by the due date. Students may not apply directly to the Graduate School.
Travel grant funding – up to $1,200 for domestic travel and $1,700 for international travel – is based on availability of funds and number of eligible applications each quarter. Only one grant per fiscal year may be awarded to a student. Doctoral students in the later stages of their programs will be prioritized for funding. Conference travel grants are awarded quarterly with application due dates that correspond to the travel dates shown below. Upon approval, funds are transferred from the Graduate School Business Office to the department.
