This session, created specifically for faculty new to “Brightspace by D2L”, will provide you with an introduction to eLC (UGA’s Learning Management System). We’ll walk you through a detailed navigation of the eLC dashboard, explore course tools such as content, assignments, announcements, and class progress, and show you how to use the Brightspace editor. Finally, you will learn to personalize your eLC experience by customizing your course homepage and navigation bar to suit your preferences and your students’ needs.

eLC 102: Using UGA’s Learning Management System - 8/7/2024 3:00 PM - 4:15 PM

In this session we’ll build on the basics learned in eLC 101, showing you how to create and organize course materials effectively for student use. We will cover the creation of announcements, content items, assignments, quizzes, and discussions, and establish an understanding of gradebook setup options and release conditions. Along the way, you will learn the basics of integrating course items with the calendar, gradebook, and the (brand new!) Due Date Tracker. You can expect end this workshop with everything you need to get your courses set up for the first day of class.

Whether you are transferring sponsored projects from your former institution or anticipate submitting proposals in the future, this workshop will provide insights on how to successfully apply for, obtain, set up, manage, and close out sponsored projects. We will discuss how shifting from effort reporting to payroll certification alleviates administrative burden across the institution. We will also demonstrate UGA systems and reports which facilitate the proposal submission process and enable investigators to easily access a high-level overview of each sponsored project and their remaining balances.

This interactive workshop for all faculty will cover the following topics:
- Space Planning & Management: Attendees will learn about Space Assignment/Allocation and Standards at UGA with an introduction to processes and procedures for various types of facilities projects.
- Procurement: Attendees will learn how to procure goods and services at UGA, outlining the “Procurement Basics” to consider prior to making a purchase along with types of procurements, methods of procurement, and procurement tools available for your use.
- Travel: Faculty will get oriented to the statewide travel regulations that govern travel for the University, including direct billing agreements in place that limit the amount of out-of-pocket expenses travelers must incur. As processes and policies undergo updates periodically, this workshop is valuable for all faculty.

This workshop is part of the Faculty Leader Series and is geared to faculty who practice leadership in titled roles or provide leadership as part of their faculty role. Of all the variables that impact workplace performance, conflict between coworkers is often the most challenging one. Conflict can damage relationships, reduce performance and create fear, which explains why many people avoid it. Conflict also provides an excellent opportunity for increased understanding, greater clarity and better results when there is a willingness and ability to navigate it effectively. In this program from the Effectiveness Institute, creator of the People Skills program used throughout UGA, participants acquire the tools and skills necessary to navigate conflict in a way that leverages the opportunities conflict creates while minimizing the potential negative relational and workplace performance outcomes. The program includes real workplace scenarios so participants learn to immediately apply this knowledge.

This session will provide insights into student learning outcomes (SLO) assessment and program review. By attending this session, participants will be able to 1. Explain the rationale behind the Program Review and SLO Assessment processes and identify the key components that need to be addressed, 2. Explain how data from the SLO Assessment informs the Program Review process, and vice versa, and 3. Describe key aspects of strong assessment design, such as choosing appropriate assessment methods and measures, analyzing data, and using assessment to inform instructional and curricular improvement. Join this interactive session to learn about the UGA School of Medicine (SOM) and Precision One Health (POH). The SOM will help address a significant shortage of medical professionals, as well as enhance human health and disease research already taking place across our university. POH is committed to studying the intricate connections among genetics, the environment, and lifestyle factors, and their effects on disease prevention and treatment. With a mission centered on personalized medicine, POH’s focus includes risk assessment, exploration of significant biological mutations, vaccine and drug development, and the selection of customized therapies based on molecular profiling. Through this workshop, you will learn more about the critical missions of SOM and POH, as well as ways to connect with these units.
