Programs Leading to Certification and Licensure
The University of Georgia offers many programs and courses of study that prepare students for careers in fields that require certification or licensure. These programs are designed to meet educational requirements for certification/licensure in the State of Georgia, and in some cases, other states. For more information, students should review the information provided below about the university’s programs leading to certification/licensure. Each program description includes a list of those states in which the university has determined that the program either meets or does not meet the educational requirements for certification/licensure in the associated career or professional practice. If a program does not list a particular state as one where the program meets or does not meet the educational requirements for certification/licensure, then the University of Georgia has not determined that the completion of the program meets educational requirements for certification/licensure in that state.
Regardless, students interested in more information about certification/licensure in a particular state should contact that state’s licensing entity to determine whether completion of the University of Georgia licensure program meets educational requirements for certification or licensure in the state. Students enrolled in a face-to-face program of instruction (as opposed to distance or online instruction) in the State of Georgia who are interested in professional certification/licensure related to their employment in a specific field of study outside of the State of Georgia are strongly encouraged to contact the appropriate licensing entity in the state or territory where they wish to work to seek information and guidance regarding certification or licensure requirements for professional practice.
Important Note Regarding Distance Learning and Online Programs
In compliance with federal regulations, the university is required to determine whether its distance learning and online programs designed to lead to certification/licensure meet the educational requirements for certification/licensure in each state where (i) a student is located or (ii) a student attests they intend to seek employment. If the university determines that the program does not meet the educational requirements for certification/licensure in such state, then the university is prohibited from enrolling students located or seeking to work in that state in the distance learning or online program.
Updates and Additional Information
The University of Georgia makes every effort to ensure that information about requirements for certification/licensure of approved programs is current; however, state and territory requirements are subject to change. Separate from educational requirements, state licensure boards may require applicants to complete professional examinations, background checks, years of professional experience, residency requirements, other specific training, or other relevant professional tasks to prepare the student for transition to a career or employment.
The university works on an ongoing basis to confirm whether its programs meet the educational requirements for certification/licensure in states other than Georgia, and information will be added to the program descriptions below as the university makes additional determinations.
