eLC Quick Start: Introduction to UGA Learning Management System

Thursday, August 4, 2022, 1:00-2:30 pm via Zoom 

Facilitator: William Immonen, MBT, M.Ed., Senior Coordinator of Learning Technology, Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)

Join us for this workshop to get acquainted with UGA's learning management system. We'll focus on the basics of eLC (eLearning Commons), key features of the home page and the use of foundation tools like how to send personalized emails to students and make class announcements that get released to students on a schedule. We'll also make sure you know where to go for more assistance once you start using eLC.

The Value of Diversity and Inclusion

Facilitator: Michelle Cook, Ph.D., Senior Vice Provost

This workshop will introduce new UGA faculty to the institutional values of diversity and inclusion. We will describe the collaborative efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion and share institutional resources that participants may find helpful. There will be space for dialogue and open discussion for participants to ask questions and share concerns they may have about coming to a new institution and navigating a new culture/climate.

Campus Tour

Monday, August 15, 2022, 9:30-10:30 am
Location: Meet at UGA Arch (corner of E. Broad Street and College Avenue)

The UGA Visitors Center offers comprehensive student-led tours of campus every weekday. A special North Campus tour for incoming faculty will be held on Monday, August 15, from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. Faculty will be able to register for this tour as part of the New Faculty Orientation registration.  Tour will begin inside the Arch (corner of E. Broad Street and College Avenue) and end at the Stadium (near Tate Student Center). 

Alternatively, you can participate on another date or time at the Visitors Center in the Four Towers Building (405 College Station Road). Following a brief admissions information session, the tour includes both a driving portion and a walking portion. Lunch at Delta Innovation Hub

Monday, August 15, 2022, 11:00 am-12:30 pm 
Location: Delta Innovation Hub, 210 Spring Street, Athens, GA 30602

Enjoy a campus tour (details above) followed by lunch in the UGA Innovation District, which is located at the interface of historic North Campus and Downtown Athens.  This district includes a diversity of spaces, programs, and services that synergize to drive innovation and entrepreneurship.

Lunch will be served at the Delta Innovation Hub. Socialize with peers and learn how the Innovation District helps faculty commercialize their research, engage with industry, and provide students experiential learning.

Nuts & Bolts of Sponsored Projects Administration

Friday, October 7, 2022, 12:30-2:00 pm via Zoom

Facilitators: Jill Tincher, Executive Director, Sponsored Projects Administration, Bradley Langford, Director Post-Award, Sponsored Projects Administration, and Cathy Cuppett, Director Pre-Award, Sponsored Projects Administration

Whether you are transferring sponsored projects from your former institution or anticipate submitting proposals in the future, this workshop will provide insights on how to successfully apply for, obtain, set up, manage and close out sponsored projects.  We will delve into the unit research administrators and central research administrators who assist faculty with these processes.  Additionally, UGA shifted from effort reporting to payroll certification, so we will discuss how this significantly alleviates administrative burden across the institution.  We will also demonstrate UGA systems and reports which facilitate the proposal submission process and enable investigators to easily access a high level overview of each sponsored project and their remaining balances.


Faculty Research Orientation 2022 (Office of Research)

Facilitators: Vice President for Research Karen Burg and the Office of Research Senior Leadership Team

Join Vice President for Research Karen Burg and the Office of Research senior leadership team for this year’s Faculty Research Orientation. Offered to faculty and research professionals who are both brand-new to UGA and veterans of many years, the orientation will help you learn more about how the Office of Research can support your work. Presenters will share information about sponsored programs, internal grants, research commercialization, integrity and safety, human and animal subjects research, core facilities, research communications, and more. Presenter remarks will be followed by Q&A with attendees.

Advice from Successful Faculty and Tips for Faculty Productivity Profiles

Facilitators: Faculty Affairs and Invited Faculty Panelists

This workshop will provide insights on preparing for the annual evaluations and feature a panel of faculty who have successfully been promoted. They will also discuss their use of Elements, the web-based system by which UGA faculty collect and report their work in research, scholarship, creative works, and other professional activities. Elements plays a crucial role in the annual performance evaluation process. You'll learn how to access and manage your user profile in UGA Elements.

Cultivating Career Success -- A Conversation with Leaders

Thursday, February 9, 2023, 10:00-11:30 am via Zoom

Facilitators: Elizabeth Weeks, Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, and three successful faculty panelists

Would you like to gain insights into navigating UGA as you build career success as a faculty member? At this interactive event, participants will have an opportunity to meet with peers and select academic leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities of faculty life within a large research university. The panelists will share observations about crafting a fulfilling career at UGA. Participants will have time to reflect on and share their experiences.

 

 


Mentoring Students

Facilitators: Graduate School Mentoring Academy

Learn the fundamentals of effective mentoring relationships and appropriate boundaries. Acquire a template for mentoring contracts, learn steps to align mentor-mentee expectations, and boost skills in your face-to-face and online mentoring.
