Emerging Leader Program
Faculty Leader Series
The Emerging Leader Program celebrates the signal academic career achievement of promotion to the rank of professor. This cohort program both congratulates faculty on this accomplishment and provides them the opportunity to consider the next phase of success and career progression. It brings newly promoted professors together with others who have flourished in this career phase to gather inspiration, build community, and foster sustained engagement in support of UGA’s tripartite mission of teaching, research, and service.
Attendees gain a fuller understanding of their career paths and opportunities.
The Office of Faculty Affairs sends out emails to all newly promoted faculty who have achieved the rank of professor.
In the fall, we hold a half-day retreat. Provost S. Jack Hu offers insights on the role of faculty in the leadership of our institution. Further, the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs will provide insights into honors and awards, and leadership opportunities open to professors. A panel of esteemed, tenured professors who embraced leadership opportunities after their promotions will share insights into the new, deeper, or continuing engagement they have embraced at this career stage.
In the spring, the cohort gathers again for an extended lunch session. The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs leads the attendees in a consideration of next steps in their professional lives. An invited panel speaks about their own paths after promotion to professor and their perspectives on leadership.
Dates, times, and location are included in the invitation email.
